Well what a lovely time we had away on the second leg of our ‘Connections’ tour and what connections we have made!

If you have read any of our previous blogs you will see that the company have had an amazing time at The Fringe Festival, Edinburgh and in Germany at the Tanz@Namedy Festival that our Associate choreographer Gary Lambert curated.

It was so lovely to have these extra dates and to see how the work has grown from our first performance at The Bonnie Bird Theatre, Laban and our last performance in Germany. Being able to perform the work on consecutive nights at the Fringe and in Germany taught us a lot about ourselves as performers and about how to ‘work’ the pieces.

It is hard to put into words the things that I feel that I have learnt during the second leg of tour but they are things that I feel will be very valuable to me in the future. They include how I can execute and perform material, work with the company on and off stage and how to exert energy on stage efficiently and effectively to keep the pieces fresh.

In Germany we were very privileged to spend large amounts of time discussing and learning from established artists. I felt myself becoming very sponge like trying to absorb all the information and stories that they told. It was fascinating listening to them describe performances, tales of their dancing lives and discoveries that they have made along the way. They always had a helpful word of advice for any issues we felt we had during rehearsals and performances and their advice and thoughts are ones that I will carry with me. I wish we could have stayed longer to have carried on these discussions as I was often a little bit in awe of them!

For the time being Five Dances and Synapsequence will be stored away in a little pocket of my brain but etched somewhere in my muscle memory waiting to be reprised. I have thoroughly enjoyed performing this bill of work and working with the highs, lows and challenges (both physically and mentally) that have presented themselves to us.

This season has seen the company grow from strength to strength and we have been able to forge new friendships and relationships with a wide range of artists and audiences that have not seen our work before.

I am very much looking forward to the coming season with Ffin and the journey that we will take together. We have some very exciting projects in the pipeline which, fingers crossed, will allow us to expand and grow further as artists and as a company.

I would like to thank Sue for all her hard work and dedication as without her Ffin would not be the company that it is today.

Thank you for reading our blogs and we’ll see you for next season!
