This week has been all about firsts at Ffin Dance – the weekend being the first time for all of us performing at the renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It definitely felt like a case of being thrust straight into the action, arriving on various flights on Friday evening into the jovial hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile…although the streets were pretty much deserted following our 5am wake-up call Saturday morning, as we took our walk down to Chambers St., ready for technical rehearsal taking us through from 6-10am!

We had morning performances both days of the weekend and in order to keep to our fifty minute slot, performed a shortened version of Five Dances (without the walking maps) followed by a quick change straight into Synapsequence. In some respects this was akin to the whole Edinburgh weekend – while being a thoroughly enjoyable experience it was over in a flash before there was even time to regroup.

Fast forward to Tuesday and we were hitting the road again, en route to Burg Namedy, where after travelling all day we eventually arrived at midnight. What can I say…it really is quite an overwhelming and awe-inspiring building to be both lodging and performing in, come the weekend.

Today has really been a day for us to acclimatise and take in our beautiful surroundings whilst technical elements of the space are being shaped. In stark contrast to Edinburgh, we have a moment to pause in this peaceable setting rather than steaming full pelt ahead which feels almost alien considering our recent exploits! I’m sure the rest will leave us invigorated and refreshed whilst we continue our stately stay and preparations.
