We have been running a wonderful project with the support of the UK Government Communities & Place Fund.
At FFIN DANCE we have always been passionate about early intervention techniques to support families and young people with engaging and affordable dance activities. This project is no exception: the activities are free to take part and are based in our car park and surrounding areas at The Beaufort Theatre.
Parkour (street play that is carried out in urban spaces) involves perceiving one’s environment in a different way and envisioning the potential for navigating it by movement around, across, through, over and under. It features activities in the car park and surrounding spaces.
This project has been building upon and developing the engagement and outreach that we currently offer, by increasing opportunities for events and partnership programmes with other local community groups and schools.
At FFIN DANCE we strongly believe that awareness of how a pride in yourself can lead to a pride in your community and lead to better lives for everyone around you. This project has been all about that: knowing your limits, respect for others, seeing potential for urban flow in your surroundings and more …
This is a lovely comment from one participant ~
” I’d say that the parkour sessions in the car park have:
- Let me share in my son’s excitement and pride as he pushes his limits and dares to tackle jumps and movements that he didn’t at first think he could manage
- Made me proud as I do the same, while trying out and successfully managing moves that I haven’t attempted for 15 years!
- Reconnected me with my body and reminded me how exhilarating it is to just move playfully and adventurously”
Everyone is welcome to join in during February half term, please see the flyer below:
