Artistic Director

Sue Lewis        

Born in London, then came to Wales as a child, Sue spent many years developing dance in the South Wales Valleys.  First, as Head of the Dance Department at Ebbw Vale Comprehensive School and subsequently as Director of Blaenau Gwent's flagship Youth Dance Company, The Move.

Originally graduated in Physical Education and Performing Arts, Sue then trained in Dance with Dilys Price at Cardiff College of Education going on from there to work on large scale community projects with professional companies including Diversions The Dance Company of Wales - a company with which she still has strong connections as a Director on the Board.  Sue has undergone further training with Siobhan Davies, and now works as a freelance dance consultant and choreographer.  In 2010, Sue became general manager of FFIN DANCE advising the Board in an artistic capacity and running the company's business enterprises

 


The Dancers

Yvette Halfhide (Rehearsal Director)

Yvette joined Ffin Dance in 2004 as a founder member and became the company Rehearsal Director in 2006.  Yvette trained at Central School of Ballet and has performed with Ballett Schindowski, Diversions, Earthfall Dance, Sinman Dance Company, Susie Crow, George Piper Dances as well as making TV appearances.  She has choreographed a number of pieces and has more recently become a session leader with Touch Trust

Since the birth of her daughter, Yvette is devoting her studio time to directing the company rehearsals and assisting the choreographers of SideWind

 

 

 

 

 


 

Lisa Hood (Senior Dancer)

Lisa joined Ffin Dance in 2005 and became senior dancer in 2008.After attending Edinburgh's Telford College she trained at the London Contemporary Dance School and has since performed with The Pair Company, Freefall Physical Theatre,Ijad Dance Company and Iratik Dance.  Lisa created a site-specific work, Elddup in June 2007 which was shown at The Sassoon Gallery and Chisenhale Dance Space and also Temell in 2008 which was shown at The Courtyard Theatre, London.

 

In December 2009, Lisa was commissioned by FFIN DANCE to create OUT, a new work for the dancers taking part in the Professional Development Project.

 

 


Originally from Cornwall Robert moved to London in 2003 to advance his training at London Contemporary Dance School ‘The Place'. It was here where he gained his BA (Hons) Degreein 2006 and completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Performance with the touring company EDge07 in 2007.For a number of years Robert has worked professionally with C.O.D Dance Productions, Award Winner Choreographer Angela Pread. With a collection of live performances touringnationally and internationally along with documentary and short film success.

Robert teaches for ‘The Place' with C.A.T and Learning and Access focusing on the development of new teaching and learning approaches in primary education. Robert also teaches freelance at academies, schools  and on community projects

Robert joined FFIN DANCE in October  2009 for the tour to France and is delighted to join FFIN DANCE for the Sweetheart Tour 2010


 

Elizabeth Peck

Elizabeth trained at the National Theatre Ballet School in Melbourne, Australia. From 2004 to 2007 she worked with Independent Ballet Wales touring throughout the UK and Ireland. During this time she also worked on various projects with choreographers such as Patricia Vallis, Madhvi Dalal and Cathy Marsden.

In 2008 - 2009 she worked for Australian choreographer Cadi McCarthy performing ‘Bracken', and in 2009 worked for choreographer, Leanne Pike performing ‘Something of Nothing'.
This is Elizabeth's first season with FFIN DANCE, and she is very happy to be part of the Sweetheart Spring Tour 2010

 

 

 

 


Rebecca Evans

Rebecca began her training in the United States with the Rochester City Ballet. She furthered her Ballet and Contemporary training at the University of Iowa. She then hopped the pond and furthered her training at the Laban Centre, completing a Professional Degree in Dance Studies. Since graduating Rebecca has been busy performing in London for numerous companies, including IJAD Dance Company, Korsnes Kompani, Sentient Dogs, FFIN DANCE and in Berlin dancing for Patrick King in ‘Ambrosia'.
Rebecca joined FFIN DANCE in 2009 creating roles in Google Women by Sheron Wray and Sweetheart Roland by Sue Lewis. This will be her second season with the company

 

 

 

 


Megan Griffiths Apprentice Dancer

Megan is from South Wales where she began dancing at the Suzanne Sims School of Dance and was a member of the Royal Ballet Associates. After deciding to pursue a career in contemporary dance Megan joined National Dance Company Wales' Associate Scheme and in 2004 Megan became a member of The Move, Blaenau Gwent Youth Dance under the directorship of Sue Lewis. She then went on to obtain an ND in Dance at Coleg Gwent before continuing her training at London Contemporary Dance School. Whilst there Megan performed repertory by Richard Alston and Siobhan Davies as well as performing in several students work. Megan has performed in both Italy and Spain in work choreographed by James Cousins. Megan is delighted to be returning to Wales to begin her professional work with FFIN DANCE

Gwen Elfyn Jones

 

Gwen trained at Laban Dance Centre. She works between London and her home town, Cardiff. Before and during training she was a part of National Youth Dance Wales, where she worked with choreographer Henri Oguike for four consecutive Summers, and is now involved in the peer recruitment programme for NYDW. Gwen has performed for numerous different choreographers, and in the summers of 07/08 performed in Italy with Elan Wales, Physical Theatre Company. Gwen has worked with FFIN DANCE on a number of projects, and always enjoys the experience. She has also taught for FFIN and other companies such as Bridgend Youth Dance, and workshops for NYDW. Gwen is a keen choreographer, and always looks to FFIN DANCE for inspiration as she is also interested in the relationship between Music and Dance

 


Jess Williams 

After starting dancing as a teenager and being part of youth dance programmes such as The Move Blaenau Gwent Youth Dance, Diversions Associates and Nubrico, Jess went on to train at the London Contemporary Dance School. On graduating in 2005 Jess joined Transitions Dance Company for their 2005/2006 tour. She has also danced for FFIN DANCE , iRONinC, Skinworks, and the band the XX Teens. Jess is based in London and teaches regularly there in secondary and primary education, she has also taught for Earthfall.  Her choreographic debut came in the 2008/2009 dance bytes programme with Welsh Independent Dance 

 


 

 

 

 

 


Lucy Glover

Lucy began training at Madelaine Kelly School of Dancing, gaining GCSE and A level in Dance while simultaneously taking part in SHIFT (the youth dance company at The Place). Continuing to undergraduate study at Laban in Dance Theatre. 

During Lucy's studies she performed at various venues by choreographers such as Tom Dale and Mathias Sperling. Outside of her studies she performed at a charity event ‘Tongue Tied?' in 2008 and has supported the work of ADAD in various roles including a backstage hand at the Southbank Centre ‘Bloom Festival'. Since graduating in 2009, Lucy has undertaken a temporary administrative role at DanceUK and volunteered with Magpie Dance. Lucy has performed at the ‘Deptford X Festival' and most recently at the dance faktry festival in the first commissioned piece, OUT by Lisa Hood for FFIN2

 

 


Fran Widdowson

Born in Nottingham, Fran completed an Access to Performing Arts course atNottingham's Clarendon College, after which she went on to train professionally at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds. Since graduating in 2006 Fran has worked with Another Dance Company, RODA, Opera North, No Fit State Circus and Citrus Arts.Fran joined FFIN2 during the dance faktry festival in December 2009 and performed in OUT 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Mike Williams

Mike first started dancing at 16 having trained in gymnastics since he was 11yrs.
It was in college where his love of dance began to grow, and during the final year Mike joined both the County Youth Dance Company and National Youth Dance Wales both of which he has been a member since 2003
He continued his dance studies at Roehampton University from where he graduated in Dance. Since graduating Mike has worked alongside Henri Oguike, Toni Mira, Gaijin-San Dance Company and Anna Melander Dance Company. At present Mike is a company member of Earthfall Dance, he also teaches regularly in Swansea. Mike joined FFIN2 during the December Professional Development Project and performed in the newly commissioned piece OUT by Lisa Hood


Catrin Lewis

Catrin was born in Wales and it was there that she began dancing at an early age firstly ballet with Sylvia Fencott and the Lemon School of Ballet and later contemporary dance with The Move, Blaenau Gwent Youth Dance.  In 2007, she gained a National Diploma in Dance, then went to London to do evening classes at The Place.  In the summer of 2010, Catrin will graduate from Scottish School of Contemporary Dance with HND in Dance.  Catrin has performed as an apprentice dancer with FFIN DANCE, and this year performed in Sweetheart Roland at London's Cloud Dance Festival.  Catrin recently performed for FFIN2 in Florid.

Catrin has worked with choreographers Roy Campbell-Moore, Janis Claxton, Sean Tuan John, Andrew Smith, Errol White, Lisa Hood and Sheron Wray recently, devloping her professional  working folio.
